Weather Apparel: Boots, Coats, and Umbrellas

Anyone in Vancouver today will understand why I am posting this weather appropriate topic today. After beautiful sunny weather for a week it was only a matter of time till we got some rain. Anyone who lives in Vancouver (and Seattle) know the importance of a good quality rain boot and coat.

I have made the mistake of buying cheaper gumboots or wearing my uggs in the rain and it is not a pretty (or dry!) thing. Living in constant fear that your socks will get wet with each puddle you step over is a terrible feeling. Drying your socks under your desk at work is even worse.

There are three things every true Vancouverite needs to invest in. Rainboots, Coats, and Umbrellas. As much as I like a good price and a great bargain these are a few things I have learned are non-negotiable if you want to stay warm.

 1. Investing in a pair of Hunters boots. Hunters or a similar high quality boot is the best thing you can do. Yes the price is high but they are worth it! You will get your use out of them and your feet won't get wet!

2 Shell out for a great water proof trench coat. This is a classic look that never goes out of style. Khaki, white, or black are your best colours for long term wear and outfit options. These can be paired with almost any outfit and it will keep you warm and dry.

3. Always, always, always have an umbrella on hand. Grab one of those regal looking black umbrellas that can cover a small country. However, if you are in a crowded city stash a small purse friendly version for those midly rainy days.

It is possible to look cute while staying dry! Take a peek at some of the celebrities who rock the boots and trench below.

Happy days Vancouver and try to stay warm, summer is coming right?

Rachel Bilson wearing a burberry trench with Jimmy Choo, Hunters.

Jessica Alba, Gwyneth Paltrow & Camilla Belle all pairing the burberry khaki trenchcoat with a different shoe.

Emma Stone wearing a classic trench looking lovely as usual.

Miranda Kerr in her trench paired with a very Cali vibe look. Ripped jeans and cheeta print flats, not Vancity appropriate but very cute.

Amanda Seyfried wearing her trench with tights and a matching black purse. Classy!

CELEB SPOTLIGHT: Ashley Tisdale

It seems like Ashley has been rocking the nude dress for a few years now but most recently at the Golden Globe Awards. Rocking a nude chiffon floor length gown she stood out as an elegant and up and coming style icon.

Pairing the dress perfectly with a nude and gold clutch and pale teal accented jewelry, this was a minimal look with a huge wow factor.

It was nice to see she did a natural toned make up that showcased her bronzed skin beautifully.

Though I didn't get a chance to see a detailed back view of her up do it seems to be a great look with a side swept bang and low bun.

I have never been a fan of Ashley Tisdale's fashion choices in the past. She typically dresses a little too casual and young, often looking like a teenager still. In the past year or so though she has really cleaned up (and possibly gotten a new stylist) and I am putting her on my best dressed list!

Though she isn't the only one who has been sporty the blanched color lately she is the only one who really pulled it off in a chic fashion. Proving she can rock both the long and short dress there is something about her blonde locks and tanned skin that makes these dresses shine!

Check out the shorter nude dresses she has previously worn below. I think that a nude dress can be pulled off with any hair colour (dark locks and a nude dress equals a great greek goddess look!) I have yet to see a fabulous outfit pulled off though on someone with a paler skin tone. I think it is a look reserved for the bronzed!

Below Ashley is seen in Beverly Hills sporting a nude dress with bowed black pumps. Though this is a more casual look (compared to her golden globe gown) This is a perfect date night out fit with some class! To really doll this up I would add a narrow black bowed head ban just to accent to the black shoes a teeny bit more.

Here Ashley plays up the nude in a sexy mini dress! Celebrating her 26th birthday at Pure Nightclub, she once again pairs the nude palette with a matching natural make up and minimal jewelry.

Wardobe Selections: Chiffon Blouse

There is something about a beautiful garment that feels artistic. I'm sure we all have those pieces that just look so elegant and simple on the rack and it's hard to even imagine putting it on. For me those pieces are usually the more girlie elements of my closet. Clothing like a silk dress or perfectly fitted dress pants that look amazing on you.

Today I decided to feature this gorgeous chiffon blouse that I recently purchased. As I have previously mentioned I am loving all the pastel colors this season and I cannot seem to buy enough of them. Nothing matches a soft pastel palette like a gentle flowy material like a silk, chiffon, or light cotton.

I will be posting some OOTD style pictures matching this shirt to some possible wardrobe choices but for now I will let this piece speak for itself! Take a look at the rest of the pictures below and feel free to pin any of them! (I finally figured out how to implement the HTML coding for that pinterest icon to appear on the image!)

Enjoy!

My Top 5 Summer Trends
Each season there’s always that new colour, cut or style that we just won’t be able to get enough of! Summer for me equals lightweight materials and minimal coverage. I love shorts, tanks, and sandals and cannot wait until the first few solid days of warm sunshine to debut my summer wardrobe.
Here are a few trending styles that I can’t wait to try out this summer!

Sock Bun Style
My friend showed me this more than a year ago before it was a huge trend. I was shocked at how perfect it turned out and looked and how simple it was to create! With one long sock, two hair elastics, and less than five minutes you can have a classy and flawless bun that looks great with every outfit. When it is hot and humid out this will be a perfect look for the beach, club or street.

Studded Everything
I was a little weary about the metal studs that were slowly creeping onto women’s clothing, bags and shoes but it has grown on me. At first I thought the metal contrasted too harshly with a soft silk or chiffon but now I think it gives the perfect accent to any outfit. I have already bought some t-shirts and shorts with studded accents and I can hardly keep them in my drawer! Paired with a loose tank or bandeau top? I am excited just thinking about it!

High Waisted Shorts
I come from a generation of low, low, looowww rise jeans so anything sitting on or above my belly button is going to take some getting used too! Trying not to have flashbacks of Tiffani Amber Thiessen from “Saved by the Bell” I bought a pair and truth be told they are not too bad. I think they are a delicate buy and you have to find a rise that looks good on you but when you find them you will know!

Cropped Tanks
High-waisted shorts and even higher cut tanks are SUCH a cute look and I have been counting down the years when this look would debut again! I love the loose tank or tight scoop neck t-shirt as long as it is bearing some belly. For all my ladies out there with your navel piercings this is the time to show them off! Just a friendly suggestion if you are doing navel jewelry I would pair the crop tank with a more subtle piece of belly jewelry.

Pastel Perfect Hues
I have been in love with pastels since I was young. They made a short appearance when I was in grade nine (I got a few pieces!) but then they disappeared once more. I love the Easter look of the baby pinks, yellows, blues and purples and I was pleasantly surprised when I saw them making a comeback last year! My closet is already full of the colourful pieces but I love the pastel denim jeans and shorts that are sneaking into stores.

There you ladies have it! My top five summer trends I am dying to try. I hope you like them! Let me know what trends you are looking forward to trying!

SEE HOW GREAT GOLD LOOKS ON BRONZED SKIN?

Gold Accents!

I have NEVER liked gold when it came to jewelry. For me I always felt it looked dated and old. I think I was surround by far too many elderly women with big gray hair and over sized gaudy gold jewelry to ever be a fan of it.

Recently I have been seeing it come back as a great accent for these pastel and khaki colours that have surrounded us all winter and spring (love them!) I finally bought my first pair of gold earrings and some cheap gold rings from forever21. I think they are making a great addition to my outfits, especially when I wear rosy tones and cream!

Just need to get a little bit of a bronzy tan and nothing will look better than a cream sweater, light washed jeans and some chunky gold bracelets!
